5 Pacers Who Deepened ‘19th Over Woes’ In Last Few Months & Gave Rohit, Dravid Huge Headache - MensXP.com

Jasprit Bumrah has been officially ruled out of the upcoming T20 World Cup, scheduled to be held in Australia in a few weeks.

Bumrah is one of the most dependable bowlers in the shortest format of the game and his absence is likely to hurt India’s chances at the marquee event.

Bumrah had missed a few series due to a back injury and even on his return recently in the home series against Australia, he looked like a pale shadow of himself.

The Men in Blue struggled throughout the year to defend targets and gave away too many runs in the last few overs. Especially the 19th over woes became the talk of the town as India tried various options to get rid of the problem but everyone went the distance.

Here is a look at five bowlers who failed to end the 19th over issues for Team India in T20Is building up to the World Cup and added to Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid’s troubles:

##JUMPLINK##

1. Jasprit Bumrah

I am gutted that I won’t be a part of the T20 World Cup this time, but thankful for the wishes, care and support I’ve received from my loved ones. As I recover, I’ll be cheering on the team through their campaign in Australia 🇮🇳 pic.twitter.com/XjHJrilW0d

Bumrah was fast-tracked back to action to allow him to gain some game time before the marquee event. However, the decision backfired as he hurt his back and has been ruled out of the T20 World Cup.

Bumrah in the two matches he played recently was given the opportunity to bowl the 19th over in his second game after a long injury layoff but even the best in the business failed to stop the run flow.

Australian batters hammered him for 18 runs in that match in the penultimate over.

2. Bhuvneshwar Kumar

Bhuvneshwar Kumar was the talk of the town throughout the Asia Cup 2022 where India failed to reach the final after losing to Sri Lanka and Pakistan in the Super 4 stages.

In both games, India captain Rohit Sharma backed Bhuvneshwar’s experience to do the job for the team but he failed.

Against Sri Lanka, India had 21 runs in the bank for the last two overs but Bhuvi gave away 14 runs in the penultimate over.

In the other match, defending 26 runs against Pakistan in the final two overs, the 32-year-old conceded 19 runs.

3. Arshdeep Singh

Without Jasprit Bumrah in the mix, Arshdeep would be Rohit’s go-to bowler to restrict the batters as he too can nail his yorkers at will like Bumrah.

However, Arshdeep too has leaked runs freely bowling the dreaded penultimate over in the recent past.

The young left-arm pacer has given away 17 runs in the last two matches, bowling the 19th over for India.

4. Harshal Patel

Harshal Patel was drafted into the Indian T20 team thanks to his brilliant run in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).

Like Bumrah, Harshal too missed out on a lot of cricket due to injury but whenever Rohit trusted him with the 19th over, more often than not, he too had conceded runs at a brisk rate.

Against a lowly opponent in Ireland, Harshal gave away 14 runs in the penultimate over.

5. Avesh Khan

Avesh Khan has been out of action since the Asia Cup 2022 due to illness but when he was playing, he too had a torrid time bowling the 19th over.

Bowling the penultimate over of the innings, Avesh Khan gave away 21 runs against Hong Kong.

Before that too West Indies batters took him to the cleaners in the 19th over and despite being the quickest among all the five names mentioned here, he too failed to end India’s 19th over woes.
