'I have to call them out' - Matthew Hayden lashes out at LSG for poor show against SRH

Australian cricketing legend Matthew Hayden lashed out at the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for their lackluster performance against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad.

The former Australian opener did not mince words as he tore into LSG's lack of intent with the bat, which ultimately led to their 10-wicket loss at the hands of SRH. Ayush Badoni (55 off 30) and Nicholas Pooran (48 off 26) were the only two batters to have a decent day with the bat for LSG.

SRH chased down LSG's modest total of 165/4 in just 9.4 overs without losing a wicket. The SRH openers, Travis Head (89* off 30) and Abhishek Sharma (75* off 28) were in brilliant form, scoring their second-fastest fifties of the season to power their team to a powerful victory.

Your intention should be to go at 10s and over: Matthew Hayden

Hayden, who was on commentary duty for the match, was visibly frustrated with LSG's approach, especially after they won the toss and elected to bat first. Despite losing just four wickets, LSG's batters failed to capitalize on the good batting conditions, scoring at a slow pace throughout their innings.

"I have to call them out. This is not a 5 runs per over wicket. Somebody needed to show intent. They had one of the slowest powerplays. That took the innings nowhere," Hayden said in a commentary.

The Australian legend emphasized that against a formidable batting line-up like SRH's, LSG's total was well below par, and their poor show with the bat ultimately cost them the match.

"When the opposition team has Travis Head, Heinrich Klaasen, your intention should be to go at 10s and over. 160-170 will never be enough Hayden added.

SRH is currently placed at No. 3 position on the points table, with seven wins in 12 games. Meanwhile, LSG is positioned at No. 6, having registered six wins and six losses so far in IPL 2024.
