IPL 2024: Gujarat Titans 2nd innings highlights against DC in Match 40

Rishabh Pant and Axar Patel took the Gujarat Titans bowlers to task with their brutal hitting, helping Delhi Capitals score 224/4 from their 20 overs. The Capitals skipper remained unbeaten on 88 off just 43 balls, with five boundaries and 8 towering maximums at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, New Delhi.

Patel played well to score his 2nd IPL fifty and come up with his best IPL score of 66 (off 43 balls). For the visitors it was Sandeep Warrier who bowled well with figures of 3/15 from his 3 overs. The veteran pacer dismissed Jake Fraser-McGurk and Prithvi Shaw in the same over before getting Shai Hope to record his figures in the IPL.

GT: 50 runs (4 overs)

Shubman Gill fell early when Anrich Nortje dismissed him for 6 caught by Axar. It was Wriddhiman Saha and Sai Sudharsan who led the fightback with some rollicking hitting that had the home team and its fans stunned.


Powerplay: GT 67 for 1 (6 overs)

Delhi Capitals had themselves to blame as one dropped catch and a few easy let runs got the visitors back into the contest. Veteran wicketkeeper-batter and opener Saha led the charge with some amazing shots.


GT: First Strategic Timeout (79/1 from 8 overs)

The constant boundaries from the Titans batters Wriddhiman Saha and Sai Sudharsan kept the Capitals bowlers on their toes. When the first time-out was taken the visiting team needed 146 runs from 12 overs with a lot of big-hitting batters left in the hut.


Milestone Alert: 100 IPL catches for Axar Patel

Kuldeep Yadav bowling his 2nd over of the innings bowled a long-hop to Wriddhiman Saha. The veteran GT wicketkeeper and batter hit the ball straight to Axar Patel who took a superb catch to reach his 100th catch in the IPL.


Sai Sudharsan: Half-Century off 29 balls

Sudharsan got his first IPL fifty of the season as he got to the mark off just 29 balls. The young batter was severe against Anrich Nortje before settling into a proper rhythm with the bat.


GT: 100 runs from 10.2 overs

The host bowlers and fielders upped their game to make sure they made a swift comeback into the game. After the fall of Saha, Axar Patel then got the wicket of Azmatullah Omarzai caught by Jake Fraser-McGurk for 1.


GT: 150 runs from 15.3 overs

Rishabh Pant tightened the screws as the Gujarat Titans lost wickets at regular intervals. With the required climbing up the Delhi Capitals managed eke out a huge advantage in the quest for a win.


GT: Second Strategic Timeout (152/6 from 16 overs)

Kuldeep Yadav bowling his final over of the innings saw five singles being taken off the five balls. Rahul Tewatia tried to slog a wider one outside off-stump only to edge the catch to Pant to give Kuldeep his second wicket of the game.


David Miller: Half-century off 21 balls

With Gujarat Titans needing 72 runs from four overs, David Miller struck off 24 runs off the 17th over, Anrich Nortje could only watch in shock as his country mate smashed him to all parts of the ground.


Gujarat Titans: 200 runs from 18.4 overs

David Miller’s quick-fire knock got the Titans back into the game and hope to win the game from an unlikely position. Sai Kishore hit Rasikh Salam Dar for two sixes to take the score past 200 and bring the Titans into the contest.


End of the match: DC win by 4 runs

Needing 19 runs from the last over, Rashid Khan took strike against Mukesh Kumar and hit the first ball for four. The next ball also went for four as the equation read 11 runs from 4 balls.  Mukesh Kumar bowled two dot balls to calm the nerves for Delhi Capitals. The penultimate ball went for six to make 5 runs from one ball as the game took yet another turn. A crucial win in the IPL 2024, kept DC in the hunt for the Playoffs' spot.
