IPL 2024: Match 36, Stats Review: Lowest win margin in IPL and other stats from KKR vs RCB

1 week ago 33

As IPL 2024 approaches the halfway mark, Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bengaluru engaged in a thriller at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

Opting to bowl first, RCB were treated to a deluge of strokeplay in the powerplay itself by Phil Salt (48 off 14), but after he departed, wickets fell at regular intervals. Skipper Shreyas Iyer (50 off 36) tried to hold the innings together, and because of a quiet show with the bat by Sunil Narine, Rinku Singh and Andre Russell, it took a cameo by Ramandeep Singh (24 off 9) to take KKR to 222.

RCB started quick in their chase before Virat Kohli was dismissed in controversial fashion and Faf du Plessis followed. Will Jacks (55 off 32) and Rajat Patidar (52 off 23) kept the tempo up before being dismissed by Andre Russell ( 3 for 25) in the same over.

None of RCB's subsequent batters looked like they were getting on top of the required run rate until Karn Sharma (20 off 7) hit Mitchell Starc for three sixes in the last over when he was dismissed with RCB needing three runs off the last two balls. Lockie Ferguson was then run out attempting a second run on the last ball leaving RCB short of the mammoth 222 by just one run.

Here are all the stats from the game:

3 - Dinesh Karthik became the third player after MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma to play 250 IPL matches.

5 - 222/6 is KKR's joint fifth-highest total in the IPL.

3 - Phil Salt's strike rate of 342.85 is the third highest in an innings of 40 runs or more for KKR.

1 - This is the 27th time that RCB conceded a total above 200 in the IPL. This is now the joint highest alongside Punjab Kings.

4 - Virat Kohli became the fourth player after Chris Gayle, Rohit Sharma and AB de Villiers to hit 250 sixes in the IPL.

4 - RCB's powerplay total of 74/2 was their fourth highest in IPL.

3 - Rajat Patidar got to his fifty off 21 balls which is the joint third fastest by an RCB player.

13 - This was the 13th IPL match to have a winning margin of just 1 run. This was also the first time that a total of 200 or more had been defended by just 1 run in the IPL.

1 - RCB's 221 was the highest all-out by a team in all T20s.
