IPL 2024: Match 56, Stats Review: Fastest fifty for Delhi Capitals and other stats from DC vs RR

1 week ago 80

The pattern of very high scores was once again repeated in Delhi as both teams crossed 200 for the third time in four matches at this ground in IPL 2024.

In match no. 56, Delhi Capitals moved on to 12 points on the points table and keep their hopes for the season alive with a hard-fought win against Rajasthan Royals.

After being sent in, DC's openers set to work on a flat wicket straight away. In the fourth over itself, Jake Fraser-McGurk(50 off 20) hit 28 runs in the over but fell soon after. Abhishek Porel(65 off 36) kept the momentum going for DC until a final burst by Tristan Stubbs (41 off 20) pushed DC to 221. DC would have almost certainly had more if not for Ravichandran Ashwin (3 for 24) who finally stepped up with the ball.

RR got off to a very rocky start and the onus fell upon their middle order to sort things out. Skipper Sanju Samson (86 off 46) single-handedly kept the game alive by forging partnerships even as wickets started to tumble on the other end. Samson's contribution was the most vital to the RR innings as no other batter even came close to replicating what he did. But the game almost definitively turned in DC's favour when Mukesh Kumar (2 for 30) removed Samson in the 16th over. Then the wheels came off RR and they went on to lose by 20 runs. Even though both of Kuldeep Yadav's (2 for 25) wickets came after DC's victory was definitive, it was the pressure created by him in the middle overs on RR's batters that ended up being the difference ultimately.

Let's take a look at the important stats from this match.

1 - Sanju Samson played his 56th match as captain for Rajasthan Royals, which is the most going past Shane Warne who had captained the Jaipur-based franchise in 55 matches.

1 - Jake Fraser-McGurk became the first batter in the IPL to reach fifty in less than 20 balls on three different occasions. He previously scored two fifties in exactly 15 balls. He was also the third player to post 3 fifties in 20 balls or less in the IPL. Kieron Pollard leads the chart with four while Travis Head also has three.
