IPL 2024: MI vs SRH Today's Match Highlights: Unmissable video recap, turning points, match analysis, stats and more

1 week ago 84

The encounter played out at the Wankhede Stadium wasn't a run-fest of sorts, like how we'd witnessed at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium around six weeks back.

The Sunrisers Hyderabad never looked comfortable after having been sent to bat first, and could only muster 173/8, mainly courtesy of their Australian contingent, Travis Head and Pat Cummins, making some decent contributions with the bat. While the opening duo of Nuwan Thushara and debutant Anshul Kamboj got some tap, the ever-reliable Jasprit Bumrah returned with economical figures yet again, proving to be the most miserly of the lot. Skipper Hardik Pandya and Piyush Chawla returned three wickets apiece.

Onto the chase, SRH had the Mumbai Indians in a tight spot after picking up their first three with only 31 on the board. However, it was Suryakumar Yadav's heroics which got MI over the line, with his adroit and ferocious 102* (51) taking his side to a seven-wicket victory, with Tilak Varma playing the perfect partner by scoring 37 off 32.

1. Both the skippers producing respective captain's performances

Hardik and Cummins, the captains of the Mumbai Indians and the Sunrisers Hyderabad, respectively, gave it their all for their sides. Both of them shone in the first innings, with Hardik coming back strongly after being hit for 22 off his first two, picking the crucial wicket of Nitish Kumar Reddy off the first delivery of his third over. In his final one, he scalped two to put SRH on the backfoot. Meanwhile, Cummins came in in the 16th over, with his side destabilised at 124/7. His late blitz with the bat propelled SRH to a somewhat decent total of 173/8, while at one point, they weren't even looking like reaching 150.

2. Bhuvneshwar Kumar comes through with yet another superb performance

The IPL veteran came back superbly after conceding nine in the first over of the match. His next one was a magnificently orchestrated maiden over to Naman Dhir, with him equalling Praveen Kumar's tally of bowling 14 maidens in the history of the IPL. His third over produced the wicket of Dhir, whose harrowing stay at the crease was put to an end after a nine-ball duck, Bhuvneshwar's penultimate delivery of his spell getting mowed over long-on for a maximum, which disrupted his figures. Nonetheless, it was an amazing exhibition of seam-bowling by the master for the umpteenth time.

3. Sky is the limit for SKY

With his side in a spot of bother at 31/3 in 4.1 overs, it was all to do for the batters to come to save Mumbai from yet another loss this IPL campaign. Local boy Suryakumar Yadav stepped up to the task and how! He quickly got going, taking charge to the bowlers, particularly taking a liking to Marco Jansen, dispatching him for a whopping 32 runs in the nine deliveries he faced from the towering lanky South African. His 51-ball 102-run knock proved to be the difference between both sides, notching up his second IPL ton and sixth century in T20 cricket to hand his side a rare win in the ongoing IPL.

Last game Surya Kumar Yadav scored half century and at the start till 15 balls he was literally playing with 100 strike rate and end up scoring at 160. Today also started responsibly. Commitment and skill 👏

Would love to see Natarajan back in the mix of things in white ball cricket for india after the World Cup 🇮🇳. He’s been unlucky with injuries in the recent past but reckon he’s back at his best this season in the #TATAIPL #SRHvsMI
