Rasikh Salam, the right-arm fast-medium bowler, emerged as Delhi Capitals' (DC) standout bowler in their clash against Gujarat Titans (GT) in the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Wednesday, April 24. Delhi, led by Rishabh Pant, clinched a nail-biting victory by a margin of four runs, showcasing their resilience under pressure.

After being put to bat first, Delhi posted a formidable target of 225 runs, thanks to half-centuries from Axar Patel (66) and Rishabh Pant (88*). Despite a valiant effort during the chase, the Titans fell short in the final over as they were restricted to 220 runs. Salam, who was designated as an Impact Player, truly lived up to the title, making a proper impact on the game.

The 24-year-old, hailing from Jammu and Kashmir, displayed his prowess by claiming three crucial wickets for 44 runs in his full quota of four overs. Among his notable scalps was GT's Impact substitute Sai Sudharshan, who amassed 65 runs off just 39 deliveries. His remaining two victims were Shahrukh Khan and Ravisrinivasan Sai Kishore. His contribution extended beyond bowling as he also made a crucial catch off Mukesh Kumar's delivery to dismiss David Miller, who also notched up a half-century in GT's chase.

Rasikh Salam plays for Jammu and Kashmir in domestic cricket

Rasikh Salam currently represents Jammu and Kashmir in domestic cricket. In December 2018, he was roped in by Mumbai Indians during the player auction for the 2019 IPL, making him the third cricketer from Jammu and Kashmir to be picked in the lucrative league.

At 17, he made history as the youngest player to make a debut for the Mumbai-based franchise. However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) handed him a two-year ban due to a birth certificate discrepancy in the same year. He then returned to IPL when Kolkata Knight Riders brought him in the auction for the 2022 edition before eventually joining the Delhi Capitals.
