Sunrisers Hyderabad too haven’t released too many players and opted for a complete overhaul the way teams such as Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Capitals have. It is their decision to release Harry Brook ahead of the player auction, however, that has left many scratching their heads.

Explosive batter Brook is widely considered the next big thing in English cricket and his reputation helped him get picked by the ‘Orange Army’ following an intense bidding war in the previous player auction. And it’s not as if Brook had a torrid run with the bat on IPL debut that led to the franchise management’s decision to release him.

Though he wasn’t consistent enough and finished with 190 runs in 11 outings, 100 of those runs came in an unbeaten 55-ball innings against Kolkata Knight Riders in the latter’s backyard. It was the kind of knock that would have convinced most teams across the cricketing world of his worth, and should ideally have earned him an inclusion in the team’s core group.

Whether SRH intend to buy him back at a lower price tag in the auction or not remains to be seen. But the kind of batter Brook is and the form that he is in, he sure can trigger another bidding war.

Brook isn’t the only Englishman to part ways with the ‘Orange Army’ though. Leg-spinner Adil Rashid too is among the nine players released and the fact that he collected just two wickets the entire season hardly helped his case.

Sunrisers Hyderabad retained players: Aiden Markram Abdul Samad, Rahul Tripathi, Glenn Phillips, Heinrich Klaasen, Mayank Agarwal, Anmolpreet Singh, Upendra Yadav, Nitish Reddy, Shahbaz Ahmed (Traded from RCB), Abhishek Sharma, Marco Jansen, Washington Sundar, Sanvir Singh, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mayank Markande, Umran Malik, T Natarajan, Fazahaq Farooqi

Sunrisers Hyderabad released players: Harry Brook, Samarth Vyas, Kartik Tyagi, Vivrant Sharma, Akeal Hosein, Adil Rashid

Sunrisers Hyderabad remaining slots: SRH have 19 players in the squad which includes five overseas players. It means they have space for six more players including three overseas.
