IPL richest league, but not the best as per World Cricketers’ Association rankings

For long, IPL has been considered the best franchise-based cricket league in the world. And it is largely true. But then, the latest WCA rankings have given a new view, which could just kickstart a debate. As per the rankings, IPL is third in the world, with an overall rating of 62.6, behind SA20 (68.0) and The Hundred (75.2).

A total of 10 leagues were rated on 13 parameters, where PSL made it to the fifth spot, while Bangladesh’s BPL was rated the poorest of all (22.6), out of all leagues. InsideSport takes a look a look at all the leagues in brief.

The Hundred

Out of a 100, England’s The Hundred scores a massive 75.2. They are the best in the business, when it comes to metrics likes, the Minimum Player Payment per week (10,510 USD). Payment reliability is top notch too, with no defaulters reported in the last 24 months. No opposition to players affiliated to a players’ association has been reported. Dispute resolution has been top notch as well. Players also get revenue share.

SA20

The South African T20 league comes in at the second spot with an overall rating of 68.0. They are one of the best in payment reliability, Security review, right to organise, dispute resolution and even unilateral clauses and commercial rights. Here also, the players get revenue share, but slightly lower than the English league.

Indian Premier League

IPL scores 62.6 and is third overall. When it comes to the payment, they are the best in the business, with no defaulters reported in the last two years. Players, by far, get the highest payments, compared to anywhere in the world.

Big Bash League

They are closely-placed with the IPL at 62.5. Largely, the amount of money paid out seems to be their only concern, and do better than the other three leagues in most departments.

Pakistan Super League

This is where the big gap starts to show. PSL scores only 48.0. Where they score well is — payment reliability, dispute resolution, and unilateral clauses. And that is it. Money involved seems to be a big concern for them.

Major League Cricket

In the 6th place comes USA’s Major League Cricket. Due to the size of the league, not much is expected from them anyway, but areas where they do fairly well is — payment reliability, security review, and right to organise. Players also get revenue share here.

ILT20

The rating here drops below 40. But the payment security for the players is there, in the relatively small league. Plus a major chunk of the revenue goes to the players as well. As per the ratings, these are only the best parts about ILT20.

Caribbean Premier League

The West Indies Cricket Board goes through its fair share of challenges, but still pull off a league, that is 8th best in the world. Payment reliability, security review, Unilateral clauses, and other restrictions is where they score the most.

Abu Dhabi T10

The only good part, as per the ratings, about this league is the payment reliability. Of course, the top players in the world are absent from this league, and stands no where, compared to some of the others in the world.

Bangladesh Premier League

Coming in at the 10th place is Bangladesh Premier League. Their overall score is only 22.6. The only place where they seem to be good is, there are no restrictions on the players. And that’s it.
