LSG’s Jonty Rhodes to become India’s new fielding coach: Reports

1 week ago 43

Jonty Rhodes, often regarded as the best fielder of all-time, has applied for the role of India’s cricket team’s new field coach. The South African had applied for the job in 2019 as well, but then head coach Ravi Shastri decided to reappoint R Sridhar. Although he didn’t throw his hat in the ring in 2021, Shastri’s successor, Rahul Dravid, decided to have an all-Indian setup as well, and T Dilip became India’s fielding coach.

For the unaware, the BCCI can shortlist an individual to become the fielding coach, but ultimately the head coach decides to select his coaching staff. Since 2019, the Indian cricket team has opted for an all-Indian coaching staff, and that will likely happen this time around as well.

Right now, Jonty Rhodes is the fielding coach for the Lucknow Super Giants in the Indian Premier League and the Durban’s Super Giants in the SA20. Apart from these two franchises, he’s worked with the Punjab Kings (Kings XI Punjab), the Sweden Cricket Federation, and the Sri Lankan cricket team as well. Apart from an excellent resume as a fielding coach, Rhodes also has an honorary doctorate from Invertis University for his exceptional performance in cricket.
