Rajasthan Royals signed uncapped Indian batter Shubham Dubey for INR 5.8 crore in the IPL auction 2024. He has played 20 T20 matches so far in his career and has scored 485 runs at a strike rate of 145.20 in the process. Delhi Capitals were involved in the bidding war but Rajasthan Royals eventually won the race.

Notably, the 29-year-old played a key part for Vidarbha in the recently concluded Vijay Hazare Trophy. However, it was in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Tournament (SMAT) that the batter played some brilliant cricket, which was appreciated by talent scouts of different teams. It eventually helped him attract a lot of franchises during the auction, with Rajasthan signing him ahead of IPL 2024.

Dubey usually bats lower down the order and is known to be a finisher. He hit 221 runs in seven innings at a strike rate of 187.28 and was the leading run-scorer for Vidarbha in the SMAT. Coming as an impact player, Dubey hit 58* runs off just 20 balls against Bengal in the tournament, as Vidarbha chased down 213 runs with 13 balls to spare.

The southpaw can play a crucial role for Rajasthan in the IPL 2024. Riyan Parag is yet to prove himself in the IPL and hence, the franchise was looking for an explosive finisher. He was closely monitored during the trials as the cricketer was also spotted spending time with former cricketer Sourav Ganguly during his trial with Delhi Capitals earlier in the year.

The Yavatmal-born cricketer had a base price of INR 20 lakhs as DC started the bidding war. RR soon joined the race and eventually emerged victorious. Other than Dubey, the 2008 champions have also signed West Indies international Rovman Powell for INR 7.4 crore. They have a budget of INR 13 crore left to spend in the auction and the focus will be to add an Indian pacer and an all-rounder in the mix.
