3 Players LSG might release ahead of IPL 2024

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) qualified for the playoffs in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 edition but failed to display their best in the crucial eliminator match against Mumbai Indians (MI), losing the contest by 81 runs at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. Forgetting their previous failure, LSG will look to play their best cricket in 2024 and lift the coveted trophy for the first time.

In the 2023 competition, their skipper KL Rahul (injury exit) and his deputy Krunal Pandya were out of form, but the franchise won’t lose faith in the big players, and they are likely to feature on the team’s retention list. Unlike both senior players, some other non-performers might not be fortunate as they may find their names on their team's release list.

Here are the top three players that LSG might release ahead of the 2024 season:

3. Romario Shepherd

After witnessing Romario Shepherd’s flop bowling show in IPL 2022, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) released him before the IPL 2023 auction. Shepherd became a part of LSG for the 2023 season at his base price of INR 50 lakh. The 28-year-old got only one game in the competition from his team.

In the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Lucknow, he didn’t bowl a single over and also went back to the pavilion on a duck while following a low total of 122 for his side. The Lucknow-based outlet didn’t utilize the Caribbean talent in 2023, and in the upcoming days, the franchise might not hesitate to keep his name out of its retention list.

Shepherd hasn’t done anything special in his recent matches either. In the Super50 Cup, he played four games for Guyana and chipped in with only 55 runs and seven wickets. His ordinary performance and current form are enough to throw him on the list of LSG’s released players.
