The star Indian batter will be looking to continue his dream run when India take on Australia in the Final of the World Test Championship starting on June 7. In the same vein, the former Pakistan opener, Salman Butt, compared Gill to the legendary, Sachin Tendulkar.

Notably, Shubman Gill has belted centuries in all the formats of cricket. One of the major knocks came against New Zealand where the Fazilika-born slammed a memorable double ton in the ODI format. This surely is a huge achievement for the youngster, who has certainly shown glimpses of a bright future. Commenting on the star India batter’s tremendous run in recent times, the legendary Pakistan bowler, Wasim Akram, opined that bowling to Gill is like bowling to Sachin in one-day cricket in the first 10 overs, when there are two fielders allowed outside the 30-yard circle. 

Talking about this commendable comparison, Butt on his YouTube channel hailed Shubman Gill and even said that the young batter has grown from strength to strength after every game. The 38-year-old also said that it is indeed a proud moment for someone like Gill as Akram is regarded as the world’s best bowler. Hence, getting acknowledged by the legend will certainly be a booster for the young Indian batter.

“These are deserving comments for him. A proud moment for Gill that Wasim Akram, regarded as one of the world’s best bowlers, has said this. He has earned it. His batting has been outstanding in the last few months. He has been on top of his game and he is looking as the standout batter in the game at present,” Butt stated.

Shubman Gill scored the most runs in the IPL 2023

In the recently concluded Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, the flamboyant Indian opener was the leading run-getter in the tournament with 890 runs to his name in the 17 innings. The Gujarat Titans' opener averaged 59.33 in IPL 2023 with an emphatic strike rate of 157.80. Notably, during the season, Gill scored three centuries.

Moreover, Gill also claimed the coveted Orange Cap for his magnanimous batting throughout the cash-rich league. It will be interesting to see how Gill adapts to English conditions to give India a strong start against the Aussies in the upcoming WTC final.
