Afghanistan squad arrives in India, to commence tour with one-off Test in Mullanpur

The Afghanistan cricket team has left for India for the upcoming multi-format tour. The Afghan Atalan’s will be captained by Hashmatullah Shahidi in the one-off Test, which won’t be part of the World Test Championship (WTC), and a 3-match ODI series. The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) had named the squad on May 26, and the next day, they are off to India.

Afghanistan ready for India tour

The contingent doesn’t include Rashid Khan, who’ll play just ODIs against India due to fitness concerns. The leg-spinner is part of the Gujarat Titans, who are due to play the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 Qualifier 1 on May 29 against the Rajasthan Royals or the Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Azmatullah Omarzai will join the team in India as well. The all-rounder was part of the Punjab Kings, who ended their IPL 2026 campaign on May 23. Omarzai is part of both squads and has ample experience of playing in Mullanpur, which will host the one-off Test and serves as one of Punjab Kings’ two home venues in the IPL.
