With the wait for T20 World Cup 2024 team selection about to end, India batter Shubman Gill opened up on his possible selection and non-selection for the marquee event. Gill, one of the most promising young batters in the team, hasn't quite set the T20 cricket stage on fire in recent times. His form for the Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League (IPL) has also not been up to the mark, with the opening batter only scoring 304 runs in 9 matches at an average of 38 and a strike-rate of 146.15.

While Gill remains optimistic about his selection in India's 15-man T20 World Cup squad, he also admitted that it would be a disappointment to miss out.

"I played the 50 overs World Cup last year and it was a dream for me to represent my country in a World Cup. If I am able to make it to this year's T20 World Cup, it would be nothing short of a dream coming true. Last year's World Cup experience would help me as we try to win the World Cup," he said in an interview with Hindustan Times.

When asked about possible non-selection, Gill said: "After scoring almost 900 runs (in IPL) last season, I would obviously be disappointed as a player. I would still be cheering for the players and wish them the best."

Gill has tough completion for the opening spot in India's T20I team. While Rohit Sharma's place is confirmed, as the captain of the side, the likes of Virat Kohli and Yashasvi Jaiswal are also auditioning for the same role.

Kohli, in IPL 2024, is the top-scoring batter at present, while Jaiswal has done really well for India as an opener across formats, including T20Is. Jaiswal, being a left-hander, also provides better balance at the top while his strike-rate has also been better than Gill in the shortest format.
