LSG cruise to win despite slow Over-Rate

On the field, LSG emerged victorious, registering a comfortable eight-wicket win chasing down CSK’s total of 176. Openers Quinton de Kock (54) and KL Rahul (82) laid the foundation with a solid partnership before Nicholas Pooran’s unbeaten 23* ensured a smooth chase.

KL Rahul and Ruturaj Gaikwad fined for slow play

While LSG dominated the match itself, their over-rate fell short of the IPL’s requirements. As a result, captain KL Rahul has been fined INR 12 lakh for this being his team’s first offense of the season under the code of conduct.

Similarly, CSK also failed to maintain the required over-rate during their batting innings. Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad has been penalized with the same fine (INR 12 lakh) as it was CSK’s first offense as well.

More on KL Rahul, Ruturaj Gaikwad:

Maintaining Pace in IPL 2024

The BCCI’s code of conduct emphasizes maintaining a brisk pace of play throughout the match. Slow over-rates can disrupt the flow of the game and disadvantage the team batting second. These fines serve as a deterrent, encouraging captains to ensure their teams adhere to the stipulated over-rate.

The IPL continues with its exciting matchups, and both LSG and CSK will be looking to bounce back from this setback. However, both captains will also be mindful of maintaining a swift pace on the field to avoid further penalties.
