In one of a kind partnership in India, IPL team Delhi Capitals has joined hands with DDCA to invest Rs 75 crore on Arun Jaitley Stadium.

The Arun Jaitley stadium, formerly known as Feroz Shah Kotla, will be maintained and upgraded thanks to a deal that the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) has made with IPL team Delhi Capitals (DC).

According to information obtained by TOI, the Capitals’ management is actively involved in helping the state association maintain the stadium. In Indian cricket, it is unusual for a franchise to take it upon themselves to support venue upkeep outside the Indian Premier League (IPL) season.

A few weeks ago, senior members of the Capitals management, including co-owner Parth Jindal, met with Rohan Jaitley, president of the DDCA, and directors. An agreement reached at the meeting’s conclusion would increase Capitals’ year-round involvement in facility maintenance.

This agreement will benefit DDCA as the ODI World Cup 2023 approaches. It is said that the first discussions revolved around Capitals agreeing to spend about Rs 75 crore.

This will be in addition to the Rs 50 crore that the DDCA is anticipated to get from the BCCI for stadium upgrades in the lead-up to the ICC ODI World Cup 2023.

The installation of two upscale hospitality boxes in the stadium has been discussed. The goal is to finish the project by the following IPL and install temporary boxes by the World Cup, a source told TOI.

“The stadium has had a lot of complaints about the atmosphere during games. That has been prioritised by DDCA and Capitals.”

Corporations manage football stadiums in Europe to maintain amenities for their club teams. This action will be taken in that general direction. Capitals will require the stadium for more than just the two months of the IPL now that the Women’s Premier League is scheduled to be contested under the home-and-away format, the source added.

It has been heard that Sourav Ganguly, the director of cricket for Delhi Capitals, has a genuine interest in making the pitch ready for IPL and international matches.

Due to the high volume of matches played, the Kotla’s fields frequently become worn down by the time the IPL arrives.

“DDCA has no other venue, thus in addition to hosting games, it also hosts men’s and women’s camps there. To control the strain on the stadium in the future, the Capitals management will work with DDCA,” the source said.
