As the retention deadline gets close, the talk of the town in cricket is the Indian Premier League (IPL) trades. The names of Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan, and Heinrich Klaasen have been mentioned. In other IPL news, the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have appointed a new coach, and the auction date has been announced. Lastly, we know the venue for the 2026 T20 World Cup opener and one semifinal.

Samson-CSK deal finalised

RR and CSK have virtually finished a trade. Sanju Samson will move to CSK and will get Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran in return. RR allegedly asked for Dewald Brevis, but CSK denied the request. In the end, both franchises agreed to the additional Curran transfer.

Klaasen & Kishan, not leaving SRH

SRH have rubbished reports suggesting the release of Heinrich Klaasen and Ishan Kishan. It was rumoured that SRH would love to rebuy Klaasen, who is paid INR 23 crore, for a cheaper price at the IPL 2026 auction. Kishan, who had an underwhelming maiden season with SRH, was to be released, but the franchise has refuted these claims.

Rajat Patidar injured

Rajat Patidar, captain of RCB and Madhya Pradesh, might be out of action for 4 months. The batter had sustained a muscle tear during the India A vs South Africa A 1st unofficial Test. Patidar is expected to miss the remaining 2025-26 domestic season and isn’t certain to feature in RCB’s IPL 2026 opener.

BCCI picks Ahmedabad again

The Narendra Modi Stadium could host the 2026 T20 World Cup opener. It’s already been reported that Ahmedabad will host the final of the tournament, which is expected to run from February 7 to March 8. One of the semifinals will be hosted at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Read more about it here.

The retention deadline for the IPL 2026 auction has been confirmed. And now, the date for the auction itself might have been confirmed as well. The venue hasn’t been confirmed, but the auction is expected to take place exactly a month after the retention deadline, December 15.

New LSG coach

LSG is set to announce former Delhi player Abhay Sharma as their bowling coach for the IPL 2026 season. He will replace Jonty Rhodes, who held the position for 3 years. Abhay has worked with the likes of Rishabh Pant, Shubman Gill, and Yashasvi Jaiswal at the Under-19 level.
