A lot happened on the eve of the retention deadline for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 auction. Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) are going to have some changes. In international cricket news, India’s number three problem in Tests persists. Kuldeep Yadav has asked for a personal leave. Lastly, Vaibhav Suryavanshi wowed everyone again on his India A debut.

LSG to release big names
LSG has decided to release four players, Ravi Bishnoi, David Miller, Akash Deep, and Shamar Joseph, before the IPL 2026 auction. Combined, the four players are worth INR 27.25 crore. LSG is also set to acquire Mohammed Shami from SRH and Arjun Tendulkar from MI.

Suryavanshi hits record hundred
Vaibhav Suryavanshi has scored the joint second-fastest T20 hundred for any Indian batter. Making his India A debut in the 2025 Asia Cup Rising Star, Suryavanshi scored a 32-ball hundred against the UAE and ended up scoring 144 (42). Only Abhishek Sharma and Urvil Patel, 28 balls, have scored faster centuries than him.

India’s Test no. 3 conundrum
In a shocking move, Washington Sundar has become India’s new number three in Test cricket, with Sai Sudharsan getting dropped. The position has been up for grabs since Cheteshwar Pujara last played for India in June 2023. Washington happens to be the 7th batter tried at the spot since. The move doesn’t seem right on paper, but it might just work out, perhaps in the shorter term.
