Every time I perform and do well the next morning, I have this feeling that the job is not done yet: Shubman Gill

India's flag bearer of the next generation of world beaters, Shubman Gill, is having a year to remember with the bat as his consistency with the bat in the ongoing IPL 2023 season finds him in elite company. Following his third IPL century, the 23-year-old opener revealed that the job was far from done, despite his team making it to the final of the competition.

Shubman Gill dished out a masterclass in T20 batting against five-time champions Mumbai Indians to guide his side to their second successive IPL final. During his trailblazing innings, the Gujarat batter claimed the Orange Cap after surpassing Faf du Plessis's tally of runs in the ongoing 16th edition of the tournament.

Although Gill has been in prime touch with the bat, there is a feeling of discontentment in the cricketer hailing from Punjab. He revealed that the job is not done yet as he keeps thinking about replicating his performances for the Indian team in the crucial tournaments later this year, starting with the WTC final against Australia.

"It’s been great, and very fortunate, I thank the universe. But every time, like today, I have this feeling that the job is not done yet. Every time I perform and do well the next morning, I have this feeling that the job is not done yet. Once IPL finishes, the World Test Championship start. 

Once WTC is over, Asia Cup will be there. Once Asia Cup is over, you’ll be like ‘Oh, the World Cup is here’. So there is always something in my mind that I look forward to, and (feel) the job is not done yet. But it’s been a great year so far for me and I’m really fortunate and really happy for that," Shubman Gill spoke exclusively to News18.

Talking about managing his workload this year with his involvement in the upcoming movie Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, the cricketer revealed that it is part and parcel of the game for every player these days. While he is looking forward to the WTC final against Australia, he stated not practising too much before the highly-anticipated clash.

“It’s been a busy year for me, but I don’t really consider practising and playing as much because that’s something that I’ve grown up with and that’s something I have been doing my whole life. It actually charges me up, but it’s been a busy year. It’s going to get busier with WTC and the World Cup coming this year and it’s going to be a really fun and exciting year for me," he added.
