Franchises demand a 10-20% increase in salary cap for IPL 2025 mega auction

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 edition will start about nine months away, but its preparations have already begun. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has already initiated a process for finalizing a couple of things before the IPL 2025 mega auction, which is expected to be held in December.

The BCCI has contacted all ten franchises and asked for their opinion on a couple of matters. The major eyeballs naturally fall on player retention, but another thing that goes hand in hand with it is the salary cap. Since the IPL’s inception, we have seen a steady increase in salary caps. Starting at $5 million in 2008, it’s up to $100 million right now.

20% increase in salary cap?

According to Cricbuzz, the CEOs of all the franchises have asked the BCCI to increase the salary cap. It was increased by 5% going from IPL 2023 to 2024 (Rs 95 to 100 crore). Now, it’s expected that we might see at least a 10% increase before the IPL 2025 mega auction. But a Rs 20 crore increase (20%) can’t be ruled out either.
