Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) defeated five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI) by five runs at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium on Tuesday, May 16. With this win, LSG moved one spot to third position while MI went down to fourth place.

After being invited to bat first, LSG posted 177 runs on the board, thanks to outstanding knocks by stand-in skipper Krunal Pandya and Marcus Stoinis. Meanwhile, The Rohit Sharma-led side failed to capitalise on the solid start by openers Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma. Tim David played a late cameo, but it was not enough for the visiting side to chase down the target.

The spectacular final-over heroics of Indian pacer Mohsin Khan pushed LSG to a narrow five-run victory over MI. With Tim David and Cameron Green on strike, the youngster was asked to bowl when MI needed 11 runs to win the game. The 24-year-old bowled effortlessly and gave only five runs in the over, allowing LSG to secure a much-needed victory.

While speaking to Star Sports at the post-match chat, Mohsin reflected on his tough one year, stating he had given up hope of ever playing cricket. He had a severe shoulder injury and did not play competitive cricket for a year after taking 14 wickets in nine matches with an economy of 5.97 in IPL 2022. Notably, he was unable to participate in the first half of the IPL 2023, and the game against Mumbai was only the third game he featured in this season.

"It was a very tough time, and I had given up hope of playing cricket at one point because I was not able to even lift my hand, forget bowling. I was not able to straighten [my hand], my physio worked alongside me. It was medical related; it was quite scary, as the doctor had said if I was late by another month they would have had to amputate my hand," he said.

He went on to say that he would like to say no cricketer should be in this condition like him. He added that it was bizarre and that his artery and nerve were both blocked at that time.

"Regarding my injury, I would first like to say that no cricketer should suffer this kind of condition. It was quite strange, my artery was blocked, my nerve was blocked," he added.

Following LSG's win, Mohsin Khan also said that he is dedicating his performance to his father, who is currently ill. The youngster conceded just 26 runs in his three-over spell and picked the wicket of MI batter Nehal Wadhera.
