India vs Afghanistan, 2nd T20I toss: India won the toss in the second T20I against Afghanistan in Indore and for a second game running, captain Rohit Sharma opted to field.
The Men in Blue made two changes to their lineup, with Virat Kohli returning to T20Is after 14 months, replacing Tilak Varma who had batted at the No 3 position in Mohali. Left-handed opener Yashasvi Jaiswal comes in place of Shubman Gill in the other change in India’s XI.
The Afghans, meanwhile, opted to bring in an extra frontline spinner in Noor Ahmad, who represents Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League, in place of Rahmat Shah.
India vs Afghanistan, 2nd T20I preview: India will be aiming the begin the new year with a series victory when they take on Afghanistan in the second of three T20Is in Indore on Sunday. The Men in Blue had won the opening match at Mohali’s IS Bindra PCA Stadium by six wickets, and a victory at Indore’s Holkar Stadium on Sunday will effectively reduce the third T20I, which takes place in Bengaluru on Wednesday, to a dead rubber.
The match will also be in focus for Virat Kohli’s return to the T20I format for the first time since November 2022. Kohli was supposed to make his return alongside Rohit in the series opener in Mohali, but missed the game for personal reasons. Skipper Rohit himself had a forgettable return to the shortest format, getting run-out for a two-ball duck after getting into a mix-up with opening partner Shubman Gill, and both he and Kohli will look to get some big scores under their belt in Sunday’s clash.
