England as promised begun aggressively in the first Test against India at Hyderabad on Thursday. After winning the toss on Day 1, Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett were off to a flier as pacers Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj failed to make an early impact. But all it took for India to put a brakes on the aggressive start was to bring in spinners Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja into action.

India Vs England Day 1 Live Score and Updates

England crossed the 50-run mark in just the 11th over as Duckett swept Jadeja for a four in his second over. That was the last boundary the opener hit as he was dismissed in the next over by Ashwin who beat the batter’s inside edge to dismiss him LBW. Duckett, who made 35 runs off 39 balls, took a DRS review but replays showed the ball would hit the top of leg. This was in the 12th over.

A little over two overs late, in the 15th over, Jadeja dismissed Ollie Pope who was caught by captain Rohit Sharma for 1 off 11 balls. Pope was guilty of pushing hard at a tossed up ball and Rohit took the catch in slips.

The third wickets fell in the 16th over. Ashwin got Zak Crawley out on 20 off 40 balls. Crawley chipped a Ashwin delivery to mid-off where Mohammed Siraj dived and took the catch.

Jonny Bairstow and Joe Root were at the crease at the time of writing this report as England try to recover from early setbacks.
