India levelled the five-match series 1-1 against England with a resounding 106-run win in the second Test in Visakhapatnam on Monday. The hosts had gone into the game without the likes of Virat Kohli (absence due to personal reasons), KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja (injuries), but Rohit Sharma and Co put up a spirited performance to restore parity in the series.

Although Yashasvi Jaiswal was the star of the show in India’s first innings with a fine double century, it was Jasprit Bumrah who walked away with the Player of the Match award after taking nine wickets across both the innings, including a six-fer in the first.
Despite the runs being scored at one end, spinners continued to dominate, with 15 of the 20 Indian wickets taken by England’s spin trio of Tom Hartley, Rehan Ahmed and Shoaib Bashir.

Zak Crawley aggregated for 149 runs in the match after scoring fifties in both innings, but for the visitors, a win wasn’t meant to be in Vizag given the fact that most of their other batters failed to rise up to the occasion.

—When he removed Ben Stokes in the first innings, Jasprit Bumrah became the fastest Indian bowler to achieve 150 Test wickets. Bumrah achieved the feat after delivering 6781 balls, bettering Umesh Yadav’s record of 7661 deliveries.
—Bumrah’s match figures of 9/91 in the second Test was also the second-best match figures by an India seame against England. Only Chetan Sharma has a better match record among India seamers against England, registering figures of 10/188 in Edgbaston in 1986.
—England’s total of 292 was the second highest fourth innings total by a visiting side in Tests in India. Sri Lanka had posted a total of 299 in Delhi in 2017.
—With his double century, Yashasvi Jaiswal became the third youngest Indian to score 200 in Tests. Vinod Kambli holds this record, getting to the milestone in 21 years and 32 days, whereas Sunil Gavaskar achieved this at 21 years and 277 days. Jaiswal got to the milestone at the age of 22 years and 37 days.
—With his three wickets in the second innings, Ravichandran Ashwin has got to 499 Test wickets and is only one behind getting his 500th Test wicket. When gets his 500th Test wicket, Ashwin will join an elite list of cricketers including Anil Kumble, Muttiah Muralitharan and the late Shane Warne to get 500 wickets or more in Test.
