10 months ago 128

The 70th game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 featured a clash between the Faf du Plessis-led Royal Challengers Bangalore and the defending champions Gujarat Titans at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore on Sunday, May 21.

Through an exceptional ton by Virat Kohli, Bangalore managed to post 197 runs on the board for Gujarat to chase. Coming in to chase the target, Gujarat were met with the early dismissal of Wriddhiman Saha. The veteran Indian batter was sent back to the pavilion after scoring 12 runs in 14 deliveries.

It was the South African bowler Wayne Parnell who executed the play of the day to send Saha packing back to the pavilion. It was on the last ball of the third over when Saha’s struggle came to an end and Siraj finally received some justice. As the Indian batter looked to slice the ball, despite getting the elevation, it did not prove to be enough as Parnell leaped and grabbed a one-handed stunner at extra cover.

RCB look to seal playoff spot

The stakes for Royal Challengers Bangalore are higher than ever in the final group stage game of the IPL 2023. The Faf du Plessis-led side needs to win their clash against Gujarat Titans to secure a place in the knockout stages of the tournament.

Currently, Bangalore find themselves in fifth place in the IPL points table with 14 points in 13 matches. With a net run rate of +0.180, they will have the upper hand against Mumbai Indians, who currently occupy the fourth spot in the standings with 16 points in 14 matches. However, their net run rate is at -0.044, which could prove to be their doom, given that Bangalore emerges victorious against Gujarat.

After Gujarat Titans, Chennai Super Kings, and Lucknow Super Giants became the first three teams to qualify for the knockout stages of the IPL 2023, the battle is between Mumbai and Bangalore, and it could be interesting to see which side comes out on top.
