Defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) emerged victorious by six wickets to eliminate Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the race for the playoffs. GT's win essentially meant that Mumbai cemented their place in the Eliminator.

Titans skipper Hardik Pandya won the toss and elected to field first. What followed was a solid start by the RCB opening duo of Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis, as they swiftly hit the ground running to get the big runs.

Moreover, the pair combined to raise a 67-run stand before the dismissal of Faf for 28 off 19 balls. Following his dismissal, the defending champions got the vital scalps of Glenn Maxwell and Mahipal Lomror in quick time to leave RCB reeling.

However, Kohli maintained his purple patch and got the required runs for the side which essentially helped him notch up a century off 60 balls. His impressive innings included 13 fours and one six as RCB concluded with a first innings total of 197 runs. Noor Ahmad got two wickets whereas Rashid Khan, Yash Dayal, and Mohammed Shami got one wicket apiece.

Shubman Gill's blazing knock eliminates RCB from the playoff race

Though RCB got the early wicket of Wriddhiman Saha for 12 runs, flamboyant batter, Shubman Gill, and Impact Player, Vijay Shankar, got the derailed side back on track in the chase. Gill took the rival bowling unit to the cleaners and got his spectacular fifty off mere 29 balls which included two sixes and five fours.

Meanwhile, Shankar too targeted the rival bowling unit for the big runs and notched up his half-century off 34 balls to keep the Titans in the driver’s seat. In doing so, the pair combined for a 123-run partnership which further dented RCB’s hopes of clinching the crucial two points.

Though RCB got the scalps of Shankar, David Miller and Dasun Shanaka, Gill took the onus of steering the side close to victory with his blazing knock. With eight required off the final six balls, Gill comfortably saw the Titans through to the finish line with a monstrous six. With this Gill concluded the chase with a phenomenal unbeaten century (104) off 52 balls featuring eight sixes and five fours at a jaw-dropping strike rate of 200.00.
