IPL 2024 Auction: Mustafizur Rahman had once collided with Dhoni. Now they are CSK teammates

Mustafizur Rahman was fined 50 per cent of his match fee on his ODI debut in 2015 because of a collision with MS Dhoni. The then India captain was docked 75 per cent of his fee. 9 years after that ugly incident, the two will play alongside each other at Chennai Super Kings.

Mustafizur Rahman, the Bangladesh pacer, will play for Chennai Super Kings under the leadership of MS Dhoni. The IPL tends to do that. It makes friends out of foes. In 2008, Harbhajan Singh and Andrew Symonds played for Mumbai Indians not long after a nasty argument during a Test match in Australia almost threatened to split world cricket down the middle.

The Mustafizur Rahman – MS Dhoni incident went on to become part of folklore in social media memes. Rahman appeared to intentionally get in the way of the batter after MS Dhoni pushed the ball for a single. Dhoni then collided into him and seemingly shoved him away. Rahman briefly went off the field and then returned to become an instant hero with a five-wicket haul on his debut. The Indian team wasn’t impressed with Mustafizur Rahman, who had tried to pull off a similar stunt against Rohit Sharma.

Over the years, Mustafizur Rahman would go on to become a star bowler for Bangladesh. He has taken 103 wickets in 85 T20 Internationals and is known to be a potent bowler in the shortest format.

Mustafizur Rahman, who has previously played for played for Rajasthan Royals and Sunrisers Hyderabad, has so far picked 47 wickets from 48 matches in the Indian Premier League. He is the kind of bowler MS Dhoni would like to operate with given his control.
