In the Indian Premier League (IPL), players become an overnight sensation with their single performance. These are the unsung heroes who, for a brief moment, steal the spotlight with an unforgettable display of skill, leaving fans wondering if they’ve witnessed the birth of a new cricketing sensation. But in later editions, these players lost their form and became a chapter of the past. Ahead of the IPL 2024 Auction, let us explore IPL’s one-hit wonders.

Paul Valthaty

Paul Valthaty came to the limelight when he struck 120 runs in 63 balls for Punjab Kings (formerly Kings XI Punjab) in 2011 against Chennai Super Kings (CSK). He was the sixth-highest run scorer of that season. The Mumbai cricketer’s IPL career came to an end in 2013 after two seasons in which he failed to contribute significantly. He had scored six runs in a row. His current team is Air India.

Manpreet Gony

In the first IPL, he was among the discoveries. Before playing two ODIs for India in the 2008 Asia Cup, Gony, a well-built bowler, made waves with the Chennai Super Kings. In 16 matches during his inaugural IPL, Gony claimed 17 wickets. Three years later, the Deccan Chargers selected him. But his continues disappointing performance, he disappeared from the league.

Manvinder Bisla

After playing for Kings XI Punjab and Deccan Chargers, he appeared to have found his calling as he scored 89 runs off of 48 balls in the 2012 KKR victory over CSK. After that, he had remarkably little opportunities, and even though he joined RCB in 2015, his career had come to an end.

Shadab Jakati

Shadab Jakati paid a crucial role in CSK title win in 2010. His dream had come true when he dismissed Sachin Tendulkar on 28 in final. Jakati also played a significant role in the 2011 final, stopping AB de Villiers in front of him and ending the Royal Challengers Bangalore’s hopes of a comeback.
