IPL 2024: Deep Dasgupta expects Rohit Sharma to deliver in remaining matches keeping mega-auction in mind

Even though Mumbai Indians (MI) are eliminated from the playoffs race in the ongoing IPL 2024 (Indian Premier League), Deep Dasgupta expects Rohit Sharma to deliver in the remaining matches in order to establish his authority. The 37-year-old hasn’t had the season to remember as he made 326 runs in 11 matches at a strike rate of 154.50 so far in the competition. Dasgupta believes that keeping the mega auction in mind, Rohit should produce better performances and most importantly, prove that he is still the main man.

The former cricketer also asked Rohit to play for the pride of Mumbai Indians. Despite having a strong squad that once seemed to be the favourites to win the tournament, the five-time champions are currently at the bottom of the points table, with just three wins in 11 matches. Dasgupta wants Rohit to turn things around and help Mumbai in the remaining matches.

“You are playing for the pride of the team, you are playing as a professional cricketer and you are playing for your pride as well. You don't want to play a game and not want to perform. Every time you cross the line, you want to do your best,” Dasgupta told Star Sports.

“Let's not forget that next year is the big auction. This is the last few opportunities that all the professional cricketers have. Even if the team is not going to qualify, at least to put up a good show and tell everyone, 'You know what, I am there',” the 46-year-old added.

He sets the tone as well at the top of the order: Dasgupta

Furthermore, Deep Dasgupta also believes that Rohit Sharma getting back into the zone will also help India in the upcoming T20 World Cup, which is slated to begin on June 1. He stated that being the captain and the opener, Rohit can set the tone - something that he has been doing for the past 18 months.

“He is such an integral part of the team since he is the captain, but he sets the tone as well at the top of the order. That's what he has been doing for the last year and a half,” he added.
