Former South Africa pacer and SRH Bowling coach Dale Steyn revealed his opinions on the chances of RCB winning IPL 2024. For 16 years, the team has been a part of the Indian Premier League and are yet to win their maiden trophy.
Speaking exclusively to Star Sports, Dale Steyn stated that even though they possess some of the greatest players the IPL has seen, they have struggled to maintain a consistent bowling line up which has led them to crash out of tournaments. Steyn further highlighted the prospects of RCB winning a title this season, stating that this may be a tough year for the Challengers.
RCB lack spin-bowling talent ahead of IPL 2024
Similar to previous seasons, RCB maintains a strong batting lineup, primarily centered around their top order featuring skipper Faf du Plessis, Kohli, Rajat Patidar, and Glenn Maxwell. RCB made waves by adding Australian all-rounder Cameron Green to their roster, slated for the No. 5 position, providing du Plessis with an additional pace-bowling option. The team aggressively pursued foreign pacers in the auction, securing Alzarri Joseph, Tom Curran, and Lockie Ferguson.
However, with du Plessis, Maxwell, and Green likely occupying three of the four foreign slots, only one of the newly acquired pacers will secure a spot in RCB’s playing XI. Mohammed Siraj is a definite inclusion, leaving Yash Dayal and Akash Deep to vie for the remaining spot.
RCB faces a spin-bowling shortage, relying on veteran spinner Karn Sharma, inexperienced Mayank Dagar, and Maxwell’s part-time spin. Given the uncertainties in the bowling lineup, RCB may continue leaning on their batting strength, a strategy yet to yield a championship.
