IPL 2024: Kolkata Knight Riders strongest predicted playing XI against Mumbai Indians, Match 60

1 week ago 36

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are gearing up for their final home match of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024) season against Mumbai Indians (MI). The outcome of the upcoming match is not going to have a significant impact on either team, but a win would make the hosts the first team to officially qualify for the playoffs.

Having won eight of their 11 matches, KKR are currently at the top of the points table with 16 points. On the other hand, MI lost eight of their 12 matches and were the first team to get knocked out of the tournament. Even if KKR lose this game, they will have two more matches left to reach the next round.

Notably, when the two teams met in Mumbai earlier this season, KKR emerged victorious by 24 runs. Going by their current form and home advantage, the two-time champions have the edge over Hardik Pandya and Co. in the upcoming match. Will KKR go with their winning combination at Eden Gardens on Saturday (May 11) or can we expect any changes?

Here's the probable Playing XI for KKR versus MI IPL 2024 clash:

Openers: Phil Salt (wk), Sunil Narine

Phil Salt and Sunil Narine - one of the formidable opening pairs in IPL 2024. In fact, these two are the two main reasons behind KKR's remarkable run so far. Both are devastating batters and can take the game away from their opponents in the powerplay itself. The strategy against MI will be similar for them - attack without fear of losing wickets.

Narine is currently the fifth-highest run-scorer in the tournament with 461 runs at an average of 41.91 and a strike rate of 183.67. Meanwhile, his partner at the other end has scored 429 runs at a staggering strike rate of 183.33. The Englishman had amassed a rapid 33-ball 68 in the last home match and will aim to repeat similar heroics.

Middle-order: Angkrish Raghuvanshi, Shreyas Iyer (c), Venkatesh Iyer, Rinku Singh

The KKR middle order has managed to continue the momentum created by their openers in the initial overs. Though Angkrish Raghuvanshi has failed to maintain a consistent scoring streak as the tournament has progressed, the 18-year-old provides stability to the team coming in at the No.3 position. Captain Shreyas Iyer has not been at his best in the ongoing season. He often plays in a supportive role and is yet to play a remarkable innings.

Venkatesh Iyer changes his batting position according to the situation of the game. The southpaw is one of the main strengths in their middle order. Notably, in the previous match against MI, he slammed a match-winning 70 runs off 52 balls. Not sure if Rinku Singh is going through a rough patch or if he is unable to play his role in KKR's strong line-up. The southpaw has yet to make any significant contributions with the bat.

All-rounder: Andre Russell, Ramandeep Singh

Andre Russell is a key cog in the KKR line-up thanks to his all-round prowess. Although not in the best form with the bat, he makes up for it with his contribution to the bowling department. The West Indies giant has taken two wickets in the last two matches at a decent economy rate.

Ramandeep Singh is a destructive lower-order batter who can deliver a blazing finish. In the last match against Lucknow Super Giants, the right-hander hit a six-ball 25 with three sixes and a boundary to help KKR cross the 230-run mark. He is also a handy fast bowler but hasn’t rolled his arms much this season.

Mitchell Starc's return to form is a boon for KKR as the tournament heads into its business end. The left-arm pacer had a terrible start to the campaign but has found his rhythm in recent times. It is noteworthy that the Aussie cricketer claimed four wickets in the previous match against MI.

Harshit Rana will accompany Starc in the pace department. The uncapped Indian player has been impressive so far with his wicket-taking ability. Varun Chakravarthy and Sunil Narine form the spin attack for KKR. Chakravarthy is currently the third leading wicket-taker in the series with 16 scalps. The mystery spinner took three wickets in the previous encounter against MI.
