IPL 2024, Match 35: Delhi Capitals vs Sunrisers Hyderabad Match Preview

1 week ago 38

The Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi is set to host its first Indian Premier League (IPL 2024) encounter as Delhi Capitals (DC) square off against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Saturday, April 20.

The Capitals have won three games and lost four out of the seven they have played in IPL 2024. They are currently placed at No. 6 on the points table. Rishabh Pant and Co. have only played two home matches thus far and both of them were held in Visakhapatnam. However, they are back at their traditional home ground, Arun Jaitley Stadium, for this important fixture. Delhi are coming off a sensational six-wicket win against Gujarat Titans. The Capitals bowled out the Titans for 89 runs before chasing the total inside nine overs.

Jake Fraser-McGurk's inclusion has been like a breath of fresh air for the Capitals. The youngster has played two matches and has scored 75 runs at a strike rate of 166.67. Prithvi Shaw has also looked in decent touch. Pat has scored two fifties this season and has been superb as the captain of the side.

The bowling department has been led by Khaleel Ahmed, who has 10 wickets from seven matches at an average of 22.90. Mukesh Kumar has also been among the wickets as he has taken eight wickets in four matches averaging at 15.62. Kuldeep Yadav has bowled well, picking up six wickets from four matches at an economy rate of just 6.06. In totality, after a slow start, the Capitals have won back-to-back games and they would want to continue the winning run.

Sunrisers Hyderabad poses one of the most destructive batting line-ups in the competition. Earlier in the season, they broke RCB's 10-year-old record for the highest team total in a game against Mumbai Indians in Hyderabad as they scored 277/3. In their most recent clash, against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Pat Cummins and Co. posted 287/3 in their 20 overs, and as a result, broke their own record. Bengaluru fought brilliantly with the bat but fell short by 25 runs.

The in-form Travis Head smashed an incredible 41-ball 102 in the first innings before Heinrich Klaasen chipped in with a swashbuckling half-century. The likes of Abhishek Sharma, Aiden Markram and Abdul Samad have also been in scintillating form. Cummins has led the team from the front as the former champions have won four and lost two out of their six matches and are placed at No. 4 on the points table.

Klaasen has been the most consistent batter for SRH. The wicketkeeper-batter has scored 253 runs from six innings at an average of 63.25 and a strike rate of 199.21. Meanwhile, Head has aggregated 235 runs at an average of 47 and a strike rate of 199.15.

Meanwhile, Cummins tops the list of highest wicket-takers for the Orange Army. The Australian seamer has picked up nine wickets in six games at an average of 21. T Natarajan has bowled some tight overs at the death but Bhuvneshwar Kumar's abysmal form has been a concern. The veteran seamer conceded 60 runs in the last game and the hammering took his economy rate for the season to 10.46.

Arun Jaitley Stadium Pitch Report and Conditions

The iconic Arun Jaitley Stadium was known for producing sluggish wickets where the balls usually kept low and caused all sorts of problems for the batters. However, before the ODI World Cup 2023, the pitches underwent a massive transformation. During the marquee event, fans witnessed some high-scoring encounters at the venue. On Saturday, fans can expect to see a lot of boundaries being hit and the plethora of big hitters on both sides will only make things more interesting.

Probable Playing XI

Delhi Capitals (DC)

David Warner suffered an injury to his left hand during the game against Lucknow Super Giants and missed Delhi's most recent encounter versus the Titans. If the experienced campaigner is fully fit, he should return to the side in place of Shai Hope. However, the team management will not want to take any risk with Warner as there are still quite a few matches left in IPL 2024.

Predicted XI: Prithvi Shaw, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Shai Hope, Rishabh Pant (C/Wk), Tristan Stubbs, Axar Patel, Sumit Kumar, Kuldeep Yadav, Mukesh Kumar, Ishant Sharma

Impact Player: Khaleel Ahmed

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH)

Sunrisers have won their last three matches and there are no injury concerns of note. They should be sticking to the same playing XI. However, to bolster the bowling department, talented leg-spinner Mayank Markhande could return to the side.

Predicted XI: Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma, Aiden Markram, K Nitish Reddy, Heinrich Klassen (Wk), Abdul Samad, Shahbaz Ahmed, Pat Cummins (C), Mayank Markande, Jaydev Unadkat, Bhuvneshwar Kumar

Impact Player: T Natarajan
