IPL 2024: Most Golden Ducks in the League

1 week ago 41

In any format of the game, getting out for a duck is something a batter does not want to suffer. It will be a nightmare for him/her if they fail to get off the mark. Nervousness while performing in big matches, pressure on the batting side after a collapse, facing a world-class bowler – there can be many reasons behind a batter not opening their account.

If so, what if the batter is out on the very first ball that he faces? That's an embarrassing record for one to hold and is not a rare sight in the game of cricket. The Indian Premier League (IPL), which is known for batters taunting bowlers with ruthless batting performances, has also witnessed several players being dismissed for golden ducks. Such are the instances when bowlers absolutely dominate the batters, and they will be over the moon. And, why not?

Veteran keeper-batter Dinesh Karthik tops this not-so-elite list in IPL with 17 ducks, followed by Rohit Sharma with 16. Interestingly, both of them are part of the ongoing season and may add more to their account in the remaining matches. Having said that, let's have a look at the list of Golden Ducks in IPL 2024 season.

A few big names on the list

In the 17th edition of the IPL, a total of 33 players were out for a Golden Duck. Notably, both former and current captains of Mumbai Indians – Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya are part of the ‘hall of shame’. MI spinner Piyush Chawla and CSK big-hitter Shivam Dube are the two players who failed to get off the mark multiple times (2).

Royal Challengers Bengaluru star all-rounder Glenn Maxwell, Rajasthan Royals star batters Shimron Hetmyer and Jos Buttler, Punjab Kings skipper Sam Curran, former Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni, PBKS batting sensation Shashank Singh, Kolkata Knight Riders opener Phil Salt, Lucknow Super Giants power-hitter Nicholas Pooran are the other notable names in this list.
