Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 dates are yet to be officially confirmed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) but a report suggests the tournament could get underway on 22 March. It will be just five days after the scheduled final of the Women’s Premier League (WPL). The IPL is slated to run until 26 May, as per the report, just five days before the T20 World Cup in West Indies and the USA. However, India’s match is scheduled for 5 June.

As per a Cricbuzz report, the tournament will be held entirely in India, despite it being an election year. BCCI is confident of hosting the entire IPL in India even though the tournament has been moved to South Africa (2009) and UAE (2014) in the past. IPL 2019, however, took place entirely in India when Mumbai Indians won the title.

Once again, the IPL schedule is intertwined with how the dates of the Lok Sabha Elections are announced by the Election Commission of India.

As per the report, BCCI have received assurances from international cricket boards that their players will be available until the end of the tournament. However, given the close proximity with the T20 World Cup, which begins on 1 June, early departures for some cannot be ruled out.

The second season of WPL is reported to take place from 22 February to 17 March. It is expected to be held in a twin city model with Bengaluru and Delhi hosting the matches. The official announcement is expected this week.
