As the IPL 2024 group stage heats up, the focus eagerly pore over the points table, crunching numbers to see which team can snag a playoff spot. The competition is fierce and every game counts. While some teams seem to have an edge, the top four slots still remain up for grabs. Fans are glued to their screens, not wanting to miss any match that could shake the standings. The intensity is palpable as teams battle it out on the pitch, here’s what could make all the difference for teams in securing a coveted playoff berth.
1. Rajasthan Royals (RR)
Rajasthan Royals sit comfortably with 16 points from 10 matches, their playoff berth seemingly assured. However, if they lose their next four games, up to four teams could leapfrog them with 18 points or more. So, while they're in a good position now, they'll need at least one more win to cement their spot in the playoffs.
2. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR)
After a remarkable win against Mumbai Indians, Kolkata Knight Riders hold a strong position in the playoff race. They are currently placed second with 14 points from ten matches. Their lead over other contenders provides a comfortable position. A victory in their upcoming match on Sunday would further solidify their position. This will also bring them closer to securing a spot in the top two and ultimately the playoffs.
3. Lucknow Super Giants (LSG)
Currently placed third in the points table, Lucknow Super Giants have amassed 12 points from six victories. Their upcoming fixtures against KKR, SRH, DC, and MI hold significant importance. To strengthen their playoff prospects, LSG must secure victories in at least three of these crucial matches. Winning just two out of the four would leave their qualification hanging on the outcomes of other teams' matches.

4. Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH)
With six victories in ten matches, Sunrisers Hyderabad currently stand fourth in the IPL 2024 points table. They have fetched 12 points. Their upcoming encounters against MI, LSG, GT, and PBKS carry crucial weight. To strengthen their playoff aspirations, SRH must secure triumphs in at least three of these remaining four matches. Should they only clinch victory in two matches, their playoff aspirations will hinge on the performances of other competing teams.
5. Gujarat Titans (GT)
Gujarat Titans find themselves in the eighth spot on the points table with eight points. Their net run rate, currently at -1.320, lags significantly compared to other teams. Even if they secure victories in all remaining matches to reach 14 points, their playoff chances remain slim due to this inferior net run rate. It presents a formidable challenge for Gujarat Titans to advance to the playoffs given their current standings.
6. Punjab Kings (PBKS)
Punjab Kings have secured 8 points in 11 matches so far. Winning their remaining three matches would propel them to 14 points. Yet, similar to other teams at the bottom, their path to IPL 2024 playoffs remains uncertain. Punjab Kings would still need to depend on the results of other teams to secure qualification if they managed to lose a couple.

7. Delhi Capitals (DC)
Currently positioned sixth with 10 points from 11 matches, Delhi Capitals face a challenge due to their poor net run rate. With just three matches remaining, two against higher-ranked teams, they must strive for as many victories as possible. Winning all three matches is ideal for qualification, but wins against Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bengaluru are particularly crucial for DC to enhance their playoff prospects.
8. Chennai Super Kings (CSK)
Chennai Super Kings find themselves with 12 points from 11 matches, putting their playoff aspirations at risk. To revive their chances, they must secure victories in their next two matches. They have three of their last four matches against lower-ranked team and one against Rajasthan Royals. A win in the next two encounters could give them a significant edge if KKR and LSG face defeats in their respective matches.
9. Mumbai Indians (MI)
Mumbai Indians' disappointing IPL 2024 journey concluded following their loss to Kolkata Knight Riders on May 3. With eight defeats in 11 matches and a mere six points, they are virtually eliminated from the playoff race. Official confirmation of their elimination is imminent, marking the end of what has been a challenging campaign for the Mumbai-based franchise in this edition of the IPL.
10. Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB)
Royal Challengers Bengaluru remain in the playoff contention despite their current precarious position. Their recent victory over Gujarat Titans has propelled them to seventh place on the points table with eight points. To secure a realistic chance of playoff qualification, RCB must win three upcoming matches. This would further their tally to 14 points. While reaching 12 points could also lead to playoffs, it would require several favourable outcomes to materialise.
