Delhi Capitals’ pacer Rasikh Salam has been reprimanded with a Level 1 offence for going overboard with his celebration after taking a wicket during their IPL 2024 match against Gujarat Titans on Wednesday, April 24.

Delhi Capitals and Gujarat Titans took on each other in the 40th game of the tournament, and Salam shone with the ball. Bowling four overs, Salam took three wickets and conceded 44 runs. His spell helped Delhi Capitals defend the total and win the game by four runs.

Salam committed a Level 1 offence under Article 2.5 of the IPL's Code of Conduct. The article relates to “using language, actions or gestures which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from another player.”

In a statement released by the IPL, it was informed that the 24-year-old admitted to the offence. "Dar committed a Level 1 offence under Article 2.5 of the IPL's Code of Conduct. He admitted to the offence and accepted the Match Referee's sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee's decision is final and binding," the statement read.

Delhi Capitals continue to climb IPL standings

Speaking of Delhi Capitals, the side has heavily improved on its performances as compared to the start of the tournament. The Rishabh Pant-led side has played nine games in the competition so far, where they have won four and lost five of their matches.

They began their campaign with a flurry of losses, however, they have been inspirational in recent games and have performed exceptionally well. Coming from 10th place, Delhi Capitals now sit in sixth in the standings, level on points with the five-time champions Chennai Super Kings.

If the side continues to perform under the leadership of Pant, they could become one of the teams that qualify for the knockout rounds of the tournament and even possibly have a shot at the title. The side’s resurgence has been one to applaud and recognise, and they will attempt to keep up their performances in the upcoming clash against Mumbai Indians.
