IPL 2024: Rating all teams’ bowling performances in fourth week

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 has entered its fifth week and so far, bowlers have struggled to contain the flow of runs due to flat pitches that are assisting batters phenomenally. Despite tough circumstances, some bowling units have displayed discipline and valiance to extract positive results for their sides.

In the fourth week of the tournament, eight matches were played, and in some games, bowlers performed brilliantly to help their teams emerge victorious. Discussing more, let’s rate all sides’ bowling displays in the fourth week of the tournament.

Here are the ratings of all teams’ bowling performances in the fourth week -

10. Lucknow Super Giants (LSG)- 4/10

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) lost both their games in the tournament’s fourth week. Their batting looked average while their bowling also put up mediocre shows against Delhi Capitals (DC) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Against DC in Lucknow, the Super Giants failed to defend 167 runs. In their next contest against Kolkata at the iconic Eden Gardens, Lucknow couldn’t remove Phil Salt, who hit an unbeaten 89 off 47 and helped Kolkata chase down 161 runs in just 15.4 overs.

9. Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB)- 4.5/10

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) got a 25-run pounding at the hands of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. In the crucial contest, RCB bowlers looked completely out of rhythm. The Challengers’ main bowlers Reece Topley, Will Jacks, and Lockie Ferguson got hammered mercilessly.

8. Gujarat Titans (GT)- 5/10

Gujarat Titans (GT) performed terribly in the fourth week and registered a humiliating six-wicket loss against DC at the distinguished Narendra Modi Stadium. Defending only 90 runs, GT pacers Sandeep Warrier and Spencer Johnson failed to tie the hands of Delhi’s batters.

7. Mumbai Indians (MI)- 6/10

Mumbai Indians (MI) clashed with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Wankhede Stadium and fell 20 runs short while chasing 206 runs. Bowling first after winning the toss, MI tried seven bowlers. Renowned names Jasprit Bumrah, Gerald Coetzee, and Mohammad Nabi bowled thrifty spells while Akash Madhwal, Hardik Pandya, and Romario Shepherd were taken to the cleaners. In the last over, captain Hardik splurged 26 runs which proved costly for the Men in Blue eventually.

After losing to Chennai, Mumbai beat Punjab Kings (PBKS) by nine runs in Mohali. This time, Bumrah and Coetzee looked confident again but Madhwal and Shepherd bowled miserable spells which could’ve proved costly.

6. Punjab Kings (PBKS)- 6/10

PBKS lost both their games in week four and disappointed their supporters. In their first game, they failed to save a total of 147 against Rajasthan Royals (RR), who chased down the target in the final over of the contest with three wickets in hand. Kagiso Rabada and Sam Curran showed their belligerent sides but both didn’t get enough assistance from other bowlers. Against MI, only Harshal Patel and Harpreet Brar displayed courage on Mullanpur’s batting turf. Rabada, Curran, and Arshdeep Singh couldn’t perform upto the expectations.

5. Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH)- 7/10

SRH batters gave an enormous total of 287 to their bowlers to defend against RCB in Bengaluru. Saving the humongous score on the batting-friendly surface, the Orange Army held their nerves and restricted the hosts to 262 runs. Pat Cummins again stepped up and bagged three wickets in his four-over spell, getting rid of Faf du Plessis, Saurav Chauhan, and Mahipal Lomror.

4. Chennai Super Kings (CSK)- 7.5/10

CSK’s bowling attack complemented their batting unit against MI at the Wankhede Stadium. Saving a score of 206, the Yellow Army held their nerves against Mumbai’s quality batting and contained the hosts to 186 runs. Matheesha Pathirana again proved himself with his tight bowling. The 21-year-old took the crucial scalps of Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, and Romario Shepherd. He concluded his spell with 4/28 figures in four overs and became the Player of the Match.

3. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR)- 8/10

KKR clinched an eight-wicket victory over Lucknow at the iconic Eden Gardens. In their triumph, Kolkata’s bowlers played an instrumental role. Mitchell Starc recorded his best figures (3/28 in four overs) with the ball in this competition and helped the Knight Riders pocket an eight-wicket win.

KKR failed to continue their winning momentum after losing to Rajasthan due to Jos Buttler’s classy knock but more than the first-half of RR’s innings, Kolkata’s bowlers looked dominating. After 12.2 overs, RR were six down at a score of 121 while following a humongous target of 224.

2. Rajasthan Royals (RR)- 8.5/10

RR won their both games in the fourth week and ended up on the top of the points table. In their three-wicket win against Punjab in Mullanpur, their bowlers looked excellent. RR’s overseas stalwarts Trent Boult and Keshav Maharaj were impactful with the ball. Avesh Khan also looked attacking and took two wickets.

Following their success against Punjab, Sanju Samson and Co. travelled to Kolkata to confront KKR. On Eden Garden’s tough bowling pitch, Rajasthan’s bowlers found it difficult to face Kolkata’s formidable batting unit. Except for Boult and Avesh, no bowler posed a tough challenge to KKR batters.

1. Delhi Capitals (DC)- 9/10

DC made a comeback in week four after beating LSG and GT comfortably. Against Lucknow at the EKANA Stadium, Delhi’s bowling looked amazing and stopped the hosts at 167. Kuldeep Yadav gave away only 20 runs and grabbed three wickets in his four-over spell. The leggie also got the Player of the Match award for his exceptional bowling.

Delhi continued their form against the Shubman Gill-led Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium. This time, their bowlers looked extraordinary and bundled out GT on a mere 89. Mukesh Kumar claimed 3/14 figures in his 2.3-over spell and became the highest wicket-taker in the game. Veteran pacer Ishant Sharma also looked fierce with the ball, claiming 2/8 figures in his two-over spell.
