IPL 2026: CSK vs KKR Match 22 - Who will be Impact Players for today's match?

A rejuvenated Chennai Super Kings (CSK) side will take on a win-deprived Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) side at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Match 22 of the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) on Tuesday, April 14.

CSK secured their first win of the 2026 season when they defeated the Delhi Capitals by 23 runs at home in their previous match. Their new signing, Sanju Samson, finally came good to score his maiden hundred in the famous yellow shirt. Jamie Overton starred with the ball to take four wickets whilst conceding just 18 runs. 

KKR, on the other hand, continue their search for their first win after suffering a narrow last-ball defeat against the Lucknow Super Giants in their previous match. The three-time champions have just one point to their name, which came after their game against the Punjab Kings was washed out.

In modern IPL, the usage of the Impact Sub can determine the overall winner of a particular game. Teams are sometimes required to act on their feet in deciding which player should be subbed in and when, based on how the game is shaping up.

Akeal Hossein: Coming in as an Impact Sub in their previous game, Akeal Hossein is an excellent spin-bowling option for CSK with a good track record in the Indian conditions. 

Matthew Short: A middle-order batter, Matthew Short can be used as an Impact Sub should CSK lose early wickets and need a batting option. The Australian is also a handy spinner and has taken 61 wickets in his T20 career.

Prashant Veer: An INR 14.20 crore purchase in the mini auction, Prashant Veer is a lower-order batter capable of bowling left-arm spin. He scored 43 off 29 balls against RCB in Bengaluru.

Aman Khan: Unlike the aforementioned players, Aman Khan is a seam-bowling all-rounder. He is coming off some excellent form in the domestic circuit for Puducherry and is waiting to make his CSK debut.

Matt Henry: If the conditions offer swing with the new ball, CSK have an experienced Matt Henry to call in as an Impact Sub. He has taken two wickets from three matches this season.

Vaibhav Arora: KKR’s designated Impact Sub option whilst defending a total, Vaibhav Arora is the side’s leading wicket-taker so far this season with five scalps to his name at a strike-rate of 14.4.

Manish Pandey: Should KKR lose early wickets, as they did against the Punjab Kings, Manish Pandey could be an option to come in as an Impact Sub. He played thrice last season, scoring at a strike-rate of 141.53.

Rahul Tripathi: Yet another top-order batter, Rahul Tripathi, returns to KKR colours after last representing them in 2021. 

Saurabh Dubey: A left-arm pacer, Saurabh Dubey has found himself on the KKR bench in all four games this season. 

Tim Seifert: A recent recruit in the mini auction, Tim Seifert was the second-highest runs-scorer at the T20 World Cup. He is also yet to make his KKR debut, but should get a game sooner rather than later.

• Home Advantage: CSK had a poor home record prior to their victory over the Delhi Capitals. The five-time champions still have one of the most passionate sets of supporters at Chepauk.
• Recent Form: A close head-to-head record in recent times, CSK have won three out of the last five meetings against KKR, with the 2024 champions winning the other two.
• Balanced Side: Both sides have their weaknesses in the bowling department, but CSK have a slightly more balanced lineup compared to KKR.
• Prediction: With these factors in their favour, expect the Chennai Super Kings to win their second successive game at home and pile even more misery on the Kolkata Knight Riders’ season.
