Sanju Samson's excellent dexterity behind the stumps has given Chennai Super Kings a fresh lease of life in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 clash against the Gujarat Titans at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Sunday, April 26.
Defending a modest total of 159, Chennai were desperate for early wickets, especially against a top-heavy Gujarat Titans' batting lineup. However, Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan added 55 runs in the power play. As the shoulders of the Men in Yellow were starting to drop, Samson produced a brilliant piece of wicketkeeping to send the Gujarat captain back to the hut.
The incident happened in the seventh over. Noor Ahmad, bowling his first over in the match, bowled a wide down the leg-side. Shubman tried to flick it away but couldn't connect. Samson moved swiftly towards his left, grabbed the ball, and whipped the bails in a flash.
Third umpire Akshay Totre was called into action, and on seeing the replays, he deemed that Shubman's back leg was in the air when the stumps lit up. Chennai were in desperate need of a wicket at that stage, and thanks to Samson's magnificent glovework, they found a small ray of hope.
