Royal Challengers Bengaluru star opener Virat Kohli once again grabbed attention with his unmatched intensity and passion during RCB’s crucial clash against Punjab Kings on May 17 at the HPCA Stadium. RCB registered a commanding 23-run victory to become the first team to qualify for the playoffs in the Indian Premier League.
Kohli was at his energetic best throughout the game, constantly motivating teammates and celebrating every breakthrough with trademark aggression. Whether it was a wicket, a near chance, or a brilliant fielding effort, the former RCB captain showed immense passion on the field. His animated celebrations, raised arms, and constant interaction with teammates and fans added extra excitement to the high-pressure encounter in Dharamsala.
Apart from his energy on the field, Kohli also delivered another crucial performance with the bat. After RCB were asked to bat first, the veteran opener anchored the innings brilliantly with a well-made 58 off 37 balls. His knock included four boundaries and three sixes at a strike rate of 156.76. Kohli built valuable partnerships in the middle overs and ensured RCB maintained momentum after an early wicket.
The innings was further powered by a sensational unbeaten knock from Venkatesh Iyer, who smashed 73 runs from just 40 deliveries. The left-hander struck eight fours and four sixes at an impressive strike rate of 182.50, helping Bengaluru post a massive total of 222 for 4 in their 20 overs. For Punjab Kings, Harpreet Brar emerged as the most effective bowler with figures of 2 for 35.
In reply, PBKS struggled early as RCB bowlers struck regularly during the powerplay. Despite a fighting half-century from Shashank Singh, who blasted 56 off 27 balls with four fours and four sixes, Punjab failed to keep up with the required run rate.
Rasikh Salam Dar played a key role with the ball, picking up three wickets for 36 runs, while Bhuvneshwar Kumar chipped in with two crucial wickets. RCB eventually restricted Punjab Kings to 199 for 8 and sealed an important victory.
