Senior batter Faf du Plessis has ruled himself out of the Carribean Premier League as the senior batter stated he felt pain while batting in his last outing for St. Lucia Kings in CPL. The right-handed batter might be a bit cautious considering his future commitments in other leagues around the world including the Indian Premier League where he leads the Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Du Plessis scored a fifty in his last outing

As mentioned above, Du Plessis played in the Kings’ most recent match against TKR and scored a blazing fifty scoring 57 off 36, fighting through pain. His effort meant that SLK went on to win the match by 54 runs. After the game, the former South African skipper revealed that he felt like losing power during his innings as he was trying to hit the big shots, so he tried to time the ball instead. To have a strike rate of 158.33 while in such discomfort shows the class of the 39-year-old.

“[During] the last while I did feel a little bit of loss of power – all because of the pain, which sometimes pulls the power back. So you just have to play a game where you feel like maybe hitting at 80% power, and [on] fields like this [which are] a little bit smaller, you can just time the ball. But yeah, really happy with the innings today,” Du Plessis told Ian Bishop in the post-match presentation ceremony.

Meanwhile, SLK have announced that Sikandar Raza will lead the franchise for rest of the season. Du Plessis has backed the Zimbabwe cricket star to come good with his experience in the shorter formats. “Raza is someone who has played a lot of T20 and T10 cricket. So very much an experienced brain there; so it’s great to have those guys on the field and ask questions. Obviously, it’s a change, and probably you could say a big change because it’s someone stepping into the shoes for the first time with the St Lucia Kings.
