The Indian Premier League 2024 Retention Day has arrived and all ten franchises are set to name the players they are going to retain ahead of the auction. The biggest headlines are around Gujarat Titans' skipper Hardik Pandya, who is likely return to his former franchse, Mumbai Indians.

This potential switch has left the cricketing world surprised, especially since Rohit Sharma is currently the captain of the Mumbai Indians and has shown no indication of leaving. He also had a brilliant time with the Indian team recently, leading them to the ODI World Cup final.

Hardik Pandya made his Indian Premier League debut with Mumbai Indians in 2015 and remained a part of the team until 2021, winning four titles with them. In 2022, with the inclusion of Gujarat Titans in the competition, he was picked up by the Ahmedabad-based franchise and was appointed as their captain. He led the team to title success in their debut season and helped them finish as the runner-up in IPL 2023.

Some top players have already been released or traded by their franchises, including Sarfaraz Khan, Manish Pandey, Shahbaz Ahmed, and Mayank Dagar. In another development, it has been revealed that Kolkata Knight Riders have released all-rounder Shardul Thakur while the Delhi Capitals have retained youngster Prithvi Shaw.
