England legend Kevin Pietersen chided Yashasvi Jaiswal after the Indian opener became a victim of his loss of concentration on Day 2 of the second Test between India and England at Visakhapatnam. Jaiswal on Saturday became the third fastest Indian to score a double century in Test cricket, but fell immediately on 209 to veteran James Anderson.

IND vs ENG: Day 2 LIVE Score

Yashasvi Jaiswal had impressed on Day 1 with his discipline against Anderson who was the only bowler to trouble him as the Mumbai batter made 179 not out by Stumps. However, he let go of that discipline after reaching his double ton.

England were close to withdrawing Anderson from the attack when Jaiswal charged down for a lofted drive over cover. However, his shot was grabbed by Jonny Bairstow to sent the Indian back to the hut.

Pietersen wasn’t very impressed with Jaiswal’s choice of shot and said that the Indian opener lost out on crucial runs due to his decision making.

“He has the temperament to play the situation. The one thing he would be kicking himself about is he went off at Anderson. He probably should have waited. He should tried to hit a six every ball against spinners. It was Anderson’s last couple of balls,” Pietersen said on JioCinema.

“This ground is not big enough for Jaiswal, and he only has to half-connect against spinners to hit a six. We would’ve seen plenty of fireworks, but now, the game has moved on.”

Jaiswal was India’s highest run-getter as India were bowled out for 396. The next highest scorer for India after Jaiswal was Shubman Gill who made 34.
