Former Pakistani pacer Mohammad Amir is all set to join Derbyshire as his playing in IPL 2024 can become a reality. Amir will join Derbyshire in the upcoming season as a local player with him getting an English passport. After retiring from International cricket in 2020, he played his trades across various leagues.

Amir who has previously played county cricket for Essex and Gloucestershire played the first edition of the Hundred for London Spirit. But for the coming season, the 31-year-old pacer will be playing for Derbyshire as a local as he is set to get his British passport. His wife is a British citizen and thus will play for the team as a local player.

This in turn can pave his way to play in the Indian Premier League for the 2024 edition. While Pakistani players are banned from taking part in the IPL, Amir can play in the league with his British passport.

“I have one year. I don’t know what would be the scenario. I always move step by step. I don’t know where I will be after a year. Nobody knows the future. When I get the passport, I will definitely avail the best opportunity I get,” Mohammad Amir told ARY News.

Mohammad Amir explicitly stated that he has no plans to return to international cricket and represent England. “I won’t play for England. I have already played international cricket, whatever I had to play, for Pakistan,” the 31-year-old said.

With no chance of playing for Pakistan in International cricket again, the Indian Premier League can be an avenue that the once-talented pacer might seek to venture into. If that is the case, then Amir will have to put his name into the hat for the IPL 2024 auction.

The IPL 2024 Auction will take place in late December but will not be during the Christmas celebrations as InsideSport reported earlier (IPL 2024 Auction to clash with India tour of SA, BCCI to host in late December).
