Dubbed one of the greatest bowlers that India has ever produced, Mohammed Shami is known for performing consistently for the Indian cricket team in all formats, spanning over a decade. On the road to recovery from an ankle injury, Mohammad Shami recently weighed into the debate about the best batter amid the ongoing Test series between India and England.

Having played under the leadership of some great captains, including MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and utility all-rounder Hardik Pandya, Shami, while expressing his admiration for both Kohli and Rohit Sharma, went on to call Virat Kohli the “best captain” and Rohit Sharma the “most dangerous batter.”

In a conversation with News18, Shami said, “Virat Kohli is the best batter in the world. He has just broken a lot of records. I think Virat is the best. But if you ask me who the most dangerous matter is, it would be Rohit Sharma.”

Besides the two leading cricketers, Shami also did not forget to mention his former captain, the legendary MS Dhoni. “It is different for everyone. These things start with comparisons. But you will say that there will be one who has been more successful, and for me, it is MS Dhoni. No one has been more successful than him,” Shami said.

Mohammed Shami’s ankle injury

Having suffered an ankle injury while leading India’s bowling attack at the ICC ODI World Cup last year, fast bowler Mohammed Shami finished as the leading wicket-taker. The 33-year-old claimed 24 wickets from seven matches. He initially failed to make it to the XI in the first four matches; however, he later got a chance after Hardik Pandya got injured and made an instant impact.

The pacer is likely to be fully fit in time for the 2024 Indian Premier League.
