The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has spilled the beans on if Mustafiur Rahman was offered a return to IPL after being released. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recommended Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to release the Bangladesh pacer last week owing to soring tensions between India and Bangladesh. While the BCB has already cancelled the No Objection Certificate (NOC) provided to Rahman for the IPL, the board has clarified that the BCCI has not made any offer to reinstate the player to the league.
Will Msutafizur Rahman get re-entry to IPL?
As per reports, BCB presient Aminul Islam Bulbul categorically denied reports of Rahman being offered a return to the IPL. He stated that no vebal discussions had taken place between the BCCI and the BCB, while adding that there was no truth to the news about a reconsideraion whatsoever. Rahman’s release from KKR led to an escalation in the matter, to an extent where Bangladesh have demanded relocation of their T20 World Cup 2026 games from India to Sri Lanka. The ICC is yet to take a final call on this matter, although reports have claimed that the global body will try and convince the nation to travel to India to play their matches.
“I haven’t had any written or verbal discussions (with the BCCI) regarding Mustafiz’s (return to the IPL). I haven’t spoken to anyone from my board about this. There is no truth to this news,” Bulbul said.
Rahman was bought for Rs 9.20 crore by KKR in the IPL 2026 aution. However, he was forced to be released last week as per the instructions given by the BCCI. Reports stated that he will not recieve any compensation from the IPL franchise. He is now set to take part in PSL instead.
What KKR said
“Kolkata Knight Riders confirms that BCCI/IPL as the regulator of IPL has instructed it to release Mustafizur Rahman from the squad ahead of the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season. The release has been carried out following due process and consultations, upon the instruction of the Board of Control of Cricket in India. BCCI will allow Kolkata Knight Riders a replacement player in line with IPL regulations, and further details will be communicated in due course.“
