Former New Zealand head coach Mike Hesson predicted that Abhishek Sharma will come into India's playing XI in the shortest format of the game after the completion of the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024.

Abhishek continued his rich vein of form in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 on Wednesday, May 8 as he smashed an unbeaten 75 off 28 balls against Lucknow Super Giants at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium to help Sunrisers Hyderabad register a comprehensive win with 10 wickets and 62 balls to spare. Travis Head also played an excellent knock of 89* off 30 balls to help the former champions chase down a 166-run target with ease.

On the back of his superlative knock, Abhishek took his runs tally for the season beyond 400. The southpaw currently has 401 runs from 12 innings at an average of 36.45 and has a strike rate of 205.64. Abhishek might not have been picked in India's T20 World Cup 2024 squad but Hesson feels that his time will come after the completion of the marquee event. The 49-year-old feels that the Punjab all-rounder could play as the No. 3 batter or compete with Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill for a place at the top of the order.

"Oh, look, I think so. I mean, I think his ability to take on spin in the power play. And he's improved greatly against pace. He is a high quality player. He's a boundary hitter. He is a six hitter and no doubt post World Cup, and he will start to make some changes, whether it be Jaiswal, himself or Shubman Gill. To be fair, there's a few. There's plenty of names, but he will definitely be one that will have plenty of people talking about," Hesson also made a massive prediction, stating that Abhishek could be in the Team India squad post-T20 World Cup," Hesson said while speaking on Jio Cinema.
