Arshdeep Singh nearly bowled 6 overs in the Punjab Kings’ (PBKS) tournament opener against the Gujarat Titans (GT). Although the Indian Premier League (IPL) rules permit a bowler to deliver no more than 4 overs, there’s no stipulation to deliver extras.
Arshdeep Singh bowls 2 overs in 1
While the left-arm pacer bowled 4 legal overs, his final count reflected 33 deliveries. Arshdeep bowled 9 extra balls, 8 wides, and one no-ball. But the highlight point was his last over of the first innings. Arshdeep ran in to bowl 11 times.
He started wayward but found his line: wide, 0, 0, 4. The next sequence was rather poor: no ball, wide, wide + 1. Finally, he found his line again: 0, 1, wide, 0. But everyone nearly dozed off in the process. Even PBKS captain Shreyas Iyer, who’s usually pretty laid-back in the field, was annoyed.
The wait was extended even further by a review, which helped PBKS, as a wide was overturned into a dot ball. In the end, Arshdeep delivered the joint-longest over in IPL’s history. However, despite all this, Arshdeep conceded just 12 runs. In comparison, Sandeep Sharma was taken for 19 runs in his 11-run ball last year.
