Young cricketer Riyan Parag has claimed that he does not care about what others think of him, as long as he enjoys the game and performs well. Parag also opened up about being constant trolled on social media.

The 21-year-old said that he is aware that some people have a problem with his style of playing and living. He says that some people criticize him for chewing gum, putting his collars up, or playing golf on his off days. They think that he is arrogant or disrespectful. But he does not let these things bother him.

People have a problem with me chewing gum. If my collar is up that’s a problem. I celebrate after taking a catch that’s a problem. They have a problem with me gaming and playing golf in my off time,” he tells The Indian Express.

“I have an idea why people hate me. There is a rulebook about how you should play cricket. The T-shirt should be tucked in, the collar should be down, give respect to everyone, don’t sledge anyone, and I am completely the opposite“, he further added.

If I fail in one game, people are going to talk rubbish: Parag

Riyan Parag made his debut in the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2019, when he was just 17 years old. He became the youngest player to score a half-century in the IPL, breaking the record of Sanju Samson and Prithvi Shaw. He also impressed everyone with his bowling skills, taking four wickets in 19 matches. He was retained by Rajasthan Royals for the next two seasons, and became a vital part of their team.

However, his failure in IPL 2023 led to some serious trolling on social media platform. But the Assam-born cricketer said that he has become immune to trolling and he doesn’t let it bother him.

“I had a decent Deodhar Trophy, and now people are saying what a talent. Tomorrow I will fail in one game and people are going to talk rubbish about me. There is no point giving a thought to those faceless trolls. No one has come down to me and told me their exact problem with me,” Parag said.

Notably, Parag had a stunning Deodhar Trophy where he was the top run-getter with 354 runs in five games, including two hundreds. The all-rounder also picked up 11 wickets in the tournament.
